LAS VEGAS – A sword-wielding man was shot and killed Tuesday after police say he approached officers “aggressively.”
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police dispatch got a call about a man causing a disturbance at an apartment complex.
Police drove to the 3000 block of Sandhill Road and found the unidentified suspect at the top of a staircase shouting. He was armed with a sword, police said.
Officers talked with the suspect in an attempt to defuse the situation, police said, but the man kept shouting and walked down the stairs.
Police ordered the suspect to put down the sword, but the man “advanced aggressively” toward the officers, police said.
The officers retreated and one shot the suspect. The man was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident marked the seventh police shooting in 2020. The identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours, police said.
After identifying family, the Clark County Coroner will identify the man.
