Reno police are investigating the shooting death of a 39-year-old Las Vegas man.
They believe the incident may be tied to a report of domestic battery earlier the same day, according to a news release from the Reno Police Department.
Police responded to a shooting at about 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5 on the 2600 block of Yori Ave. after a report of a battery with a deadly weapon.
Officers located one subject on scene that had been shot. The subject was transported to an area hospital where he later died.
Reno Police robbery and homicide detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding this case. Detectives interviewed all involved individuals, along with nearby witnesses.
Based on their investigation, detectives learned the incident was related to an earlier call for service where a female resident of the apartment complex had been battered and strangled by her boyfriend, police said. The suspect, the boyfriend, had fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
The suspect later returned to the complex looking for the female victim. While there, the suspect confronted the landlord of the complex placing the landlord in imminent danger, according to police. The landlord defended himself, shooting the suspect once, police said.
The circumstances are still under investigation and the names of the involved individuals are being withheld at this time.
