Two people were seriously hurt following a multi-vehicle crash that sent an SUV flying off the freeway near the Spaghetti Bowl and down 50 feet to a private lot below the overpass.
The crash was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday on the northbound lanes of Interstate 580, near the exit that leads to eastbound Interstate 80, according to Trooper Hannah DeGoey, of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
DeGoey said a white van lost tire tread, sending the van across all four travel lanes. The driver then struck another driver in a red SUV, causing the vehicle to roll off the highway.
The SUV then plummeted onto a lot of a private business located on East Fourth Street.
DeGoey said both drivers were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. They were traveling alone in their vehicles at the time of the crash.
Crews were working to clear the scene. DeGoey said all lanes on I-580 have since reopened.
