Nevada inmates now receiving COVID-19 vaccines

An inmate is vaccinated by the Nevada Department of Corrections as vaccinations for NDOC inmates gets underway.

The Nevada Department of Corrections announced Thursday that it began vaccinating eligible inmates earlier this week.

According to the NDOC, one-third of the eligible inmates who requested to be vaccinated have already received their first dose.

In Carson City, 44 inmates at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center received the Moderna vaccine on Thursday.

More clinics have been scheduled throughout the month as 46% of the 10,866 inmates statewide signed up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the NDOC.

“We are pleased to get this effort under way,” NDOC Deputy Director William Quenga said. “Keeping our staff and offenders healthy and safe is our top priority.”
