The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who was shot and killed during a domestic violence incident on Sunday.
The man was identified as 39-year-old Las Vegas resident Luis Lira, the medical examiner’s office said in a news release on Tuesday.
Lira was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the torso shortly after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center. The manner of death was homicide, the news release said.
Investigators said they believe the incident may have been tied to a report of a domestic battery Sunday afternoon on the 26000 block of Yori Avenue.
Detectives learned that woman who was residing at the apartment complex there had been and strangled by her boyfriend.
The boyfriend, who was later identified as Lira, had fled the scene before officers arrived.
Lira later returned to the complex looking for the female victim. While he was there, he confronted the landlord and the landlord defended himself by shooting the suspect once, police said.
