Firefighters responded to a 75-acre brush fire in Spanish Springs on Thursday.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District crews reported that the Cielo Fire threatened multiple structures in the early afternoon but the fire spread rather slowly and crews were able to extinguish any flame within about two hours. No structures were harmed.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially evacuated Calle de la Plata up to Valle Verde Drive and everything south of Calle de la Plata east of Cielo Vista Drive, according to the office’s Twitter account. Evacuees were allowed to return home later in the afternoon.
About a half dozen aircraft were on scene, according to spokesperson Adam Mayberry.
Assisting agencies included the sheriff’s office, Reno Fire, Sparks Fire, the Bureau of Land Management, and Nevada Division of Forestry. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
