18 new COVID-19 cases reported in Washoe County
The Regional Information Center reported 18 new COVID-19 cases and 15 recoveries in Washoe County on Sunday. Other updates include:
- Total cases in Washoe County: 1,095 (increase of 18 from May 9)
- Deaths: 39 (no increase from May 9)
- Recoveries: 497 (increase of 15 from May 9)
- Active cases: 560 (increase of four from May 9)
- Currently hospitalized: 42 (no increase from May 9)
- Cases discharged from hospital: 93 (no increase from May 9)
DMV to re-open 2 offices for commercial drivers May 11; still closed to public
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will reopen its commercial driver license offices in North Las Vegas and Sparks on May 11, the department announced.
The offices will offer limited services to commercial drivers; no transactions for the general public will be completed. A re-opening date for the full-service DMV offices has not been set.
Only 10 customers at a time will be allowed inside because of the small size of the offices. Social distancing will be in effect. DMV staff will wear face coverings; customers are encouraged to do so.
Positive cases statewide rise
RENO — Seventy new positive coronavirus cases were reported Sunday, a nearly 12 percent increase from the number of positive case reported on Saturday, according to the state’s tracking dashboard.
The total number of positive cases in Nevada is 6,098. The state death toll remains at 306.
State marks 5 deaths from coronavirus on Saturday; total now 306
LAS VEGAS – Five additional deaths from the coronavirus were reported Saturday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Nevada to 306, according to the state’s tracking dashboard.
The total number of positive cases throughout the state is 6,028.
As of early Saturday night, 68,366 people had been tested for COVID-19.
In Washoe County, 12 additional COVID-19 cases were reported on Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,077. The death toll remained 39.
Also Saturday, the Regional Information Center reported that an additional 16 people have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the county to 482.
With Phase 1 reopening, many businesses remain closed
LAS VEGAS — The shutdown orders that kept Nevadans out of their favorite restaurants and stores began to lift Saturday, but diners and shoppers appeared slow to return – and many businesses remained shuttered.
Open-air malls like Town Square in Las Vegas reopened, allowing shoppers to walk up and down the sidewalks, but many of them didn’t find what they were seeking. Would-be shoppers walked up to chain stores like Hollister and H&M, tugging on the handles of locked doors, disappointment washing over their faces. Read more on Day 1 of Nevada’s reopening here.
Musk threatens California with relocating Tesla business to Nevada, Texas over shutdown rules
Tesla CEO Elon Musk threatened Saturday to pull the company’s factory and headquarters out of California in an escalating spat with local officials who have stopped the company from reopening its electric vehicle factory.
“Frankly, this is the final straw,” he tweeted. “Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately.”
Musk \threatened to sue over Alameda County Health Department coronavirus restrictions that have stopped Tesla from restarting production its factory in Fremont south of San Francisco.
